Critical Essays

As a student in the PhD program for English, Creative Writing at Georgia State University, it’s been an honor to serve as an assistant editor for Five Points. One of most exciting opportunities editor Dr. Megan Sexton offered was the chance to write for the Five Points blog, The Den.

During my time with Five Points I had the privledge of interviewing novelist and poet Sesshu Foster on his book Atomik Aztex. The article, “Q & A(te): Sesshu Foster’s ATOMIK AZTEX,” focused on the role of food in the narrative.

I also wrote two pieces analyzing the use of food in classic literature, which were developed while I was studying for my comprehensive exams. These articles were “Madame Bovary: What is food if you can’t consume it?” and "Pride and Prejudice & The Awakening: What is food if not domestication or temptation?

These are examples of “literary” food writing, but for more traditional example of food writing, you can check out my Food Writing post. If you’re interested in food-related short stories, humor pieces, or personal essays, there is also the Fiction and Creative Nonfiction lists on the Genres page.
